Developing positive self-esteem and persevering in the face of difficulties are fundamental parts of growing up, but when 12-year old orphan Lewis (Daniel Hansen and Jordan Fry) can't seem to get adopted or make his inventions work despite repeated efforts, he begins to seriously doubt himself and his abilities as an inventor. A CGI picture by Disney with great animation and a fresh vision of what the future might look like, Meet The Robinsons follows Lewis from his lonesome days at the orphanage to his crushing failure at the school science fair when his newly invented memory scanner won't work. Then, an odd boy named Wilbur Robinson (Wesley Singerman) shows up to warn Lewis about the mysterious "Bowler Hat Guy" (Stephen J Anderson) lurking around the science fair, an evil man Wilbur claims is from the future. The next thing Lewis knows, he and Wilbur are on route to the future via time machine. Once there, Lewis meets the very quirky, extended Robinson family with whom he feels oddly at home. As the search for the Bowler Hat Man and his constant companion Doris (Ethan Sandler) becomes more and more dangerous, the Robinson family becomes crucial in keeping Lewis safe. In the end, Lewis returns to the present with a whole new inner strength, a sense of his place in the world, the knowledge that his actions directly affect others, and an optimistic determination to "keep moving forward." While comparisons with the Back to the Future films are inevitable, Meet the Robinsons stands apart from its predecessors as its own, thoroughly entertaining family film. (Ages 4 and older)

Included is the seven-minute 1938 short Mickey Mouse's Boat Builder in which Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and Donald Duck order and assemble a do-it-yourself boat kit and launch an impressive ocean liner dubbed the "Queen Minnie." Needless to say, hilarity reigns throughout and following the boat-building process. --Tami Horiuchi

4 out of 5 stars Interesting plot but too abrupt ending   December 31, 2008

Interesting plot for an animated film. Like many other films, the ending seemed too abrupt and left me not 100% satisfied.

I have been trying to watch MEET THE ROBINSONS for nearly a year now. Each time I sat down to watch it, my three year old needed mommy for something else. Finally, she, herself, is old enough to enjoy it, so we all sat down together to watch this Disney film. What fun we had!

Disney did a nice job with MEET THE ROBINSONS. This film is beautifully animated, had a nice, happy story, and puts a smile on the of each member of the family. With the added bonus of a little cartoon sci-fi and some time-travel, MEET THE ROBINSONS will appeal to almost everyone.

In MEET THE ROBINSONS, Lewis is a geeky little 12 year old inventor, who was left at the 6th Street Orphanage soon after his birth. A very sweet, but very quirky boy, Lewis has never found quite the right family to adopt him. Lewis's world suddenly gets turned upside down when mysterious people begin popping into his life. One kid, Wilber, has a time machine and takes Lewis back to the future to fix a very big mess. There, Lewis meets the wacky Robinson family. They would seem to be the perfect family for young Lewis, but of course, there is a catch. Madness and mayhem ensue, and, of course, there is that pesky disturbance in the space-time contimuum to worry about. Lewis must work hard to save the day, overcoming self doubt and evil henchmen. In the end, he gains a loving home and family, which is all he ever wanted.

MEET THE ROBINSONS is a very cute, very charming, very off beat family film. It teaches wonderful messages: Don't be so afraid to fail that you never try, failing is good as long as you do your best, just keep trying until you get it right. All are excellent messages for children of all ages in today's fear of failure world.

The animation is MEET THE ROBINSONS is nice looking with great vivid colors and fun images. The world of the future is perfect...straight out of the imagination of a 12 year old boy of the early 1960s...bubble transportation, sentient robots, singing frogs...great, great fun.

MEET THE ROBINSONS is the perfect family movie for a nice, entertaining evening at home. Curl up together and enjoy. Don't forget the popcorn. RECOMMENDED.

5 out of 5 stars Very inventive, fun, with a very weird family...   December 6, 2008
Aimee Ford Conner (At home)
I adore this movie. Not only is it good clean fun (so my sensitive kids can handle it) the storyline is really, really fun -- and funny. And so convoluted that you gotta watch it twice just to make sure you get it all -- and that's something fun to look forward to. Loved it. Just loved it. The frogs singing Sinatra were only one of the high points...

5 out of 5 stars Best Disney flick in ages   December 4, 2008

We really enjoyed this and wish we'd caught it earlier! The characters and smart and dynamic and the plot isn't dumbed down. Adults will enjoy catching the references to movies like "Fargo," "Benny & Joon" and "Pulp Fiction." Our 2 and a 1/2 year old was riveted although the plot was mostly beyond him. He loved all the flying spaceships, robots and dinosaurs nonetheless.
